Chinsegut Nature Center
Located 7 miles north of Brooksville, Chinsegut Nature Center covers 408 of the 828 acres comprising Chinsegut Wildlife and Environmental Area (WEA). Chinsegut Nature Center hosts many educational programs and hikes throughout the year. To preserve the beauty of the area, the center is open to the public only during scheduled programs or by appointment.
 
Croom Equestrian Trails
The horse trails in the Hernando County portion of the Croom Tract of the Withlacoochee State Forest. The horse trails in this area are dry-to-damp, all weather trails that wind through central Florida’s longleaf pine and scrub oak hills, live oak thickets and hardwood hammocks, past creek bottoms and cypress ponds.
 
Croom Hiking Trails
All trails are unpaved. The outer A/B/C Loop Trail is collectively 14.8 total miles, the A/B connector is 2.8 and the B/C connector is 1.2 miles; the Hog Island Trail is approximately 5.8 miles; and the loop trail beginning from Silver Lake is approximately 3.5 miles.
 
Croom Motorcycle Area
Off highway motorcycle and ATV users will find many miles of trails from easy to challenging, within the area’s 2,600 acres. The terrain ranges from hardwood hammocks and tight scrubs, to numerous pits left from discontinued mining operations.
 
Croom Off-Road Bicycle Trails
The off-road bicycle trails in this area are dry-to-damp, all weather trails that wind through central Florida’s longleaf pine and scrub oak hills, live oak thickets and hardwood hammocks, past creek bottoms and cypress ponds. Of particular interest are the area’s ravines, prairies and abandoned rock mines. Wildlife found in the area include deer, quail, grey squirrels and bobcats.
 
The Weekiwachee Preserve
A 9,000 acres conservation lands located on the Hernando County coast. It is part of a regional system of conservation lands that extends up to Chassahowitzka National Wildlife Refuge, preserving the southernmost coastal hardwood hammock in western Florida. The Preserve provides a rich mosaic of habitats including several miles of Weekiwachee River frontage, portions of the Mud River, dense hardwood swamps, fresh and saltwater marshes, and pine-covered sandhills. The Preserve is best known for its Florida black bear population. The bears are shy, elusive, and pose no threat to people. They spend most of their time deep within the swamp.
 
Withlacoochee State Trail
At 46 miles in length, the Withlacoochee Trail is presently the longest paved rail trail in Florida. The trail corridor runs through small towns, ranches, and natural areas as it makes its way south from Citrus Springs to Trilby.
